Vallabh Sambamurthy
V. Sambamurthy (Ph.D., University of
Minnesota, 1989) is the Eli Broad Professor of Information
Technology and the Executive Director of the Center for
Leadership of the Digital Enterprise at the Eli Broad
College of Business at Michigan State University. He has
previously served on the faculties of the business schools
at The University of Maryland and The Florida State
University. He has expertise in how firms leverage
information technologies in their business strategies,
products, services, and organizational processes. His work
has been funded by the Financial Executives Research
Foundation, the Advanced Practices Council (APC), and the
National Science Foundation. His work has been published in
journals such as the MIS Quarterly, Information Systems
Research, Decision Sciences, Management Science,
Organization Science, and the IEEE Transactions on
Engineering Management. He has served on the editorial
boards of numerous journals, including MIS Quarterly,
Information Systems Research, IEEE Transactions on
Engineering Management, and the Journal of Strategic
Information Systems. He is the editor-in-chief of
Information Systems Research, one of the top journals for
scholarly research on information systems.
Sambamurthy teaches courses related to the alignment of
information technology and corporate strategy. He has been
actively involved in executive education on current topics
such as the shaping of digital business transformations,
strategic alignment of IT, and the management of IT
innovation in firms. He has worked as a researcher or a
consultant with several Fortune 500 firms including
AstraZenneca, 3M, General Dynamics, Owens Corning, Intel,
Bell Atlantic, Freddie Mac, and BellSouth. Currently, he is
the Co-Director of the Academic Council at the Business
Technology Management Institute, a new organization aiming
to enhance executive understanding about strategic alignment
of information technology, business strategies, and business
processes. His recently co-authored book, titled, Winning
the Three Legged Race: When Business and Technology Run
Together, advocates the necessity for firms to integrate
their business and information technology management
processes.

Detmar Straub
The J. Mack Robinson Distinguished Professor
of Information Systems at Georgia State University, Detmar
has conducted research in the areas of Net-enhanced
organizations (e-Commerce), information security,
technological innovation, IS methodological issues, and
international IT studies. He holds a DBA (Doctor of Business
Administration) in MIS from Indiana and a PhD in English
from Penn State. He has published 140 papers in journals
such as MIS Quarterly, Management Science, Information
Systems Research, Organization Science, Journal of MIS,
Journal of AIS, Information & Management, Communications of
the AIS, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management,
Communications of the ACM, OMEGA, Academy of Management
Executive , and Sloan Management Review.
Detmar is the Editor-in-Chief of MIS Quarterly, with a term
started in January of 2008. Previously he has served as
Senior Editor for Information Systems Research, Journal of
the AIS (JAIS) and DATA BASE. He was also Co-Editor of DATA
BASE for Advances in Information Systems. Previously, he was
Associate Editor for Management Science as well as an
editorial board member on a host of other journals. His
consultancies with industry have been in the areas of
information security, e-Commerce, and technological
innovation.
He teaches masters level courses at Georgia State University
in: eCommerce Strategy, IT Strategies for Management,
Systems Integration and IT Outsourcing, International IT
Policies and Issues, and Computer Security Management, and
doctoral seminars in Quantitative Methods in IS Research, &
Experimental Design.
He serves as Director of Research and Doctoral Programs in
the Robinson College of Business. He is former VP of
Publications for the Association for Information Systems. He
was appointed AIS Fellow in 2005.

Yingluo Wang
He was born in Jingxian
County, Anhui Province on May, 1930. He got his bachelor's
degree from Jiaotong University in 1952 and engaged in his
graduate study at Harbin Institute of Technology from 1953
to 1955. He is currently member of the Chinese Academy of
Engineering and a professor in management science and
engineering and Ph.D. advisor of Xi'an Jiaotong university,
the honorary dean of the School of Management, and the vice
Dean of Shaanxi Provincial MBA College. He also holds many
academic titles such as invited member of the Decision
Consulting Commission of Shaanxi Province, international
editorial member of Journal of Computer and IE based in US,
standing board member of the International IE Society, chief
of the editorial committee of Journal of Industrial
Engineering and Engineering Management, chief of editorial
committee of Journal of Industrial Engineering.
He had been appointed as the first dean of
the School of Management of Xi'an Jiaotong, a facilitator of
Management Science and Engineering Division of the Academic
Degree Committee of the State Council, head of the
application appraisal group of the Management Science
Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of
China, editorial member of Journal of China Engineering
Science, adviser of the China National MBA Academic Degrees
Guidance Committee, member of the China National Soft
Science Guidance Committee, vice chairman of the System
Engineering Society of China, standing board member of the
Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and chairman of
Industrial Engineering Division, chief scientist of the
System Management and Integration Research Laboratory of the
Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Center of former
Ministry of Machine Industry, expert of the Major Technology
Research Expert Panel of the Three Gorges Project. In 2003,
he was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of
Engineering (CAE).
He is a national famous expert and a pioneer
in the field of management science and engineering. Because
of his persistent pursuit of the study and education of
management discipline for half a century, he keeps staying
in the frontier of this field. He undertook many systemic
and innovative works and made lot of contributions to the
development and discipline interlinks of management
engineering, system engineering and industrial engineering.
He synthesized and applied relevant theories and techniques
to engineering management and social economic problems and
achieved a great success. More than a dozen national
innovative research projects were directed by him. Due to
his academic achievements, he was awarded with many national
and provincial awards such as the National University
Scientist co-issued by the Ministry of Education and the
Ministry of Science and Technology, the third-class award of
the National Scientific Research Advances, the first and
second-class award of Provincial Scientific Research
Advances for eight times and the Teaching Awards for three
times at the national and provincial level.
He had been responsible for over ten national
key research projects and established a brand-new
methodology and model system. He is one of the pioneers who
integrated the theories and techniques of system engineering
and modern management with the application of social and
economic problems. He participated in the projects of
Development Strategy of Energy, Heavy and Chemical Industry
Base of Shanxi Province and China in the New Millennium,
completed the project of Integrated Economic Evaluation and
Decision Support System of Three Gorges, established the
planning model of national education and participated in the
establishment of national talent plan, which was recognized
as the significant achievements of the application of system
engineering in the 80s in China.
In 1995, he put forward strategic
decision-making methods and support instruments based on
computer intelligent system and completed the project of
Computer Intelligent Decision Support System of Power Supply
Distribution Design and Management in the City Zone of
Yichang Region and Intelligent Decision Support System and
Information Processing. In 1997 and 1998, he achieved the
first and second class awards of National Scientific
Research Advances by the Ministry of Education. From 1998 to
1999, he was responsible for the project of Dispersed
Network Manufacturing and Management Research which is a
ninth five year plan key project and brought forward the
theory and method of Agile Network Manufacturing Pattern and
its implementation approach, by which he won the second
class award of Scientific Research Advances by the State
Bureau of Machine Building Industry in 1999 and the Science
and Technology Achievement Award by the Chinese Mechanical
Engineering Society in 2001.
He has published more than 200 papers in
national and international academic journals and
proceedings. He is the author of 22 textbooks and monographs
on strategic decision-making, system engineering, industrial
engineering, etc., among which Introduction to System
Engineering, System Engineering, System Engineering Theory:
Method and It's Application are widely used by many colleges
and universities across China. He is the first who advocated
educating management talents from engineers, actively pushed
double degree programs and and MBA programs among senior
management talents in China. As the first Ph.D. advisor in
the field of management engineering in China, Xi'an Jiaotong
was the earliest university which opened postdoctoral
stations in this field. He is the Ph.D. advisor with 53
students got their degrees and 9 postdoctoral researchers.
Due to his outstanding contribution for economic
development, he was granted "Bole Award" by Xi'an Jiaotong
University in 2002.
He has been paying much attention to
discipline development. With his efforts, the Department of
Management was founded in 1978 in Xi'an Jiaotong, and the
School of Management was established among the earliest in
China in 1984, which was authorized to offer Ph. D. degrees
of Management Engineering, and was the earliest Ph.D.
Program in China. The subject of Management Engineering at
Xi'an Jiaotong was nominated as the only national key
subject in 1990. The subject was again evaluated as one of
the national key subjects, which ranks at the top in
discipline evaluation in 2002 by the Ministry of Education.
He has organized and involved in many
international academic activities and enjoys high reputation
among academic communities at home and abroad.
His current research interests include 1)
strategic management, especially flexible strategy,
strategic decision-making and planning; and 2) engineering
management, especially feasibility study of huge engineering
projects, management of AMT patterns & productivity
engineering.
